New Orleans French Quarter
March – The trip will be from March 16-23. We will work with Kaleo Ministries/Church in New Orleans by serving ministries in New Orleans reaching out to those in need, including impoverished kids, the homeless, AIDS patients, displaced families and the elderly. Each day will involve ministries in different areas of focus and the city. The evening will involve a debriefing time with Kaleo staff to discuss what was experienced and learned, and to explore how we can implement what was learned in the context of Little Rock. Participants must be at least 14 years old. Cost: $450
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS TRIP.
May – Medical Ministry
September - Medical Ministry
The spring trip will be in May 2013 and is somewhat strenuous. Travel in country will be by canoe and possibly by plane also. The trip will be mainly medical and evangelistic but a medical background is not necessary. We will hold medical and optometry clinics, including provision of donated prescription glasses. In this context we will tell bible stories through translators in the villages. We will sleep in hammocks and bathe in the Suriname river at night. Though the trip is somewhat difficult, it is very rewarding and the people are very appreciative. Cost:
July – Youth Camp
September – Evangelism and Discipleship – If praise, worship or discipling others are your God-given gifts, then join us as we travel back to Cote de Fer, Haiti. God's Kingdom is spreading and the village of Cote de Fer is hungry to continue the relationship with the Summit that God has set in motion. A large focus of this trip will be youth evangelism, including a day camp and evening evangelistic meetings. The trip is scheduled for September 13-20, 2013 Cost: $2100
June – Summit Student Ministry Camp. Cost: $2000
August – This trip will involve a boys "social work" site focused on helping boys learn skills and what it means to be "men" as appropriate to their age. There is a women's social work site. The focus is Bible study and working on life skills. There is a medical site that partners with a health clinic run by the local church. There is also a micro finance site that works with women. Team members will be able to choose ministry sites according to their preferences when they fill out an application online with students international. For more information, go to www.stint.com Cost: $2000
Engage 221 is a plan for the fall of 2012 to touch the lives of people we already know with the Gospel. Evangelism is simply letting people know that they are loved. This love was proven by Christ on the cross. This love is experienced most powerfully through relationships between believers who truly love each other and care about people who don’t know Christ. This is the heart of the Gospel. With this in mind, we are going to work together as a Body to touch the lives of each other’s friends.
AR Kids Read
As of 2009 almost 47% of 4th grade students in the 3 school districts of Pulaski County were reading below grade level. National Studies indicate that the fundamentals of effective reading are built in the earliest grades and support all subsequent reading achievement and learning. Poor readers are six times more likely to drop out of school, and statistics show that two-thirds of children who cannot read proficiently by the end of the fourth grade will end up in jail or on welfare.
The goal of AR Kids Reads is to have all public school students reading at grade level by the completion of 3rd grade. National studies have shown that the most effective reading teaching method is relationship based one to one. The specific goal of AR Kids Read is to provide tutors for children reading below grade level for a minimum of 30 minutes a week.
